Two to twenty minutes. Ben, my instructor for quicksketch, demoed a couple of figures on my pad - his are the confident, fluid ones. Stan, my instructor for introduction to drawing, fixed minor drawing problems in my twenty minute lay-ins.

Charcoal, and watercolor with white gouache. Three hour poses. I love this guy's handlebar mustache. I couldn't quite finish the last one, because he was dressed up in full pirate regalia and drapery takes forever for me to render at this stage.

Fun Disney-esque theme tonight. Various types of charcoal (compressed, pencil, vine, and willow) on bristol vellum paper. Three and a half hours. Just fudging around with new techniques.

Charcoal, twelve plus hours. I don't remember exactly how long this took; I spent all of Memorial Day and the day before working on it. I'll be submitting it tomorrow for an open call exhibition in Encinitas - if I'm lucky it'll be hanging in a gallery there for the month of June. Honestly though, I don't care if the judges like it or not - it was intended to be a gift to the sitter and her opinion is what really counts in the end. I hope she likes it.

Charcoal, and watercolor with gouache. 2 hours for the first, 3 hours for the second. Even though it was a study and an experiment, I'm not thrilled with the color scheme for the watercolor; the pastiness of the skin makes her look somewhat like a clown. I'll keep that in mind for next time.
